The Cape Cobras put themselves in line to win their second trophy of the season when they beat the Titans by five wickets in their SuperSport Series fixture in Cape Town on Sunday.

The result bumps the Cobras to the top of the log on 95.74

points. The Titans are just behind in second with 94.62 points with one round to play.

The Cobras finish the competition with a home match against the log bottom Warriors at Boland Park next week while the Titans are at home to the Knights in Benoni.

Cobras opening batsman Yaseen Vallie made a career best 163 in the first innings and then batted with great maturity in the second to make 79 off 80 balls as the Cobras chased down a target of 168. He was only dismissed when the Cobras needed eight runs for victory with seven overs remaining.

Earlier in the day another newcomer, off-spinner Dane Piedt, had taken 7/92 in 32 overs to bowl the Titans out for 278 in their second innings.

Titans middle-order batsman Farhaan Behardien secured his second half-century of the match (82 off 154 deliveries) but he and Shaun von Berg (56 off 127) played something of a lone hand.

The Highveld Lions won their match against the Warriors by 144 runs with 32 overs to spare at the Wanderers.

Set a victory target of 306, the Warriors stumbled to 161 all out in 54.4 overs.

Shane Burger, who set up the Lions' big first innings lead with a century and also took useful wickets, was named Man of the Match.

Warriors seam bowler Andrew Birch returned 5/42 in 19 overs in the Lions' second innings before the hosts declared at 202/8.

The Knights had to give second best to the weather as their match against the Dolphins was abandoned early on the final day in Pietermaritzburg.
