The Lions got off to a solid start against early Supersport Series log leaders the Knights in their match in Kimberley.

The visiting team's top order, led by Stephen Cook, laid a solid foundation after they won the toss and chosen to bat.

Cook, who carried his bat through the day for his 22nd first-class century, was unbeaten on 131 as he guided the Lions to 297 for six at the close.

Seam bowler Dillon du Preez took a couple of jabs at the Lions, removing Neil McKenzie and Zander de Bruyn in the same over, with the Knights firing in the final session, but Cook managed to hold the visitors together. – Sapa
