The Dolphins said Chris Gayle's groin injury was being assessed on Monday after the West Indian big hitter arrived for the domestic T20 Challenge competition.

Gayle was expected last week, but his arrival was delayed due to injury and he missed the Durban side's three-run win in their opening match against the Impi on Sunday.

The KwaZulu-Natal Cricket Union (KZNCU) said Gayle had arrived on Sunday night.

“Once the medical examination is available to us, we will be able to make an assessment of when Chris is available to play for us”, said KZNCU chief executive Jesse Chellan.
