Cricketer Robert Frylinck has been reprimanded by an SA Institute for Drugs in Sport disciplinary hearing after testing positive for a banned substance.

The Highveld Lions allrounder tested positive for sibutramine in a routine drugs test after the SuperSport Series match between the Lions and the Knights at the weekend.

Sibutramine is a substance found in slimming tablets.

Frylinck had been given clearance to take the drug by the Lions' medical team.

During the hearing on Monday, he pleaded guilty to taking it, but was given a reprimand because of the circumstances.

He was also cleared to take up his contract with the Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

"Although Robbie followed the team protocol before taking the tablets, this case illustrates the risks when players take unregulated supplements," said SA Cricketers' Association CEO Tony Irish.

"In cricket, as in all sports, we support anti-doping measures and players need to constantly guard against the risks," he said. – Sapa
