Proteas spinner Paul Harris spearheaded the Titans attack while Daryn Smit put up lone resistance from the Dolphins middle order as the hosts stumbled on the opening day of their SuperSport Series match against the Dolphins in Pietermaritzburg on Thursday.

Harris delivered 26 overs and was well rewarded for his efforts, bagging five for 37 to prevent the Dolphins from building any solid partnerships.

Opener Divan van Wyk put up the only real fight for the home side at the top of the order, but Harris had him caught behind for 45 runs shortly before lunch.

Left struggling at 118 for six Smit hit back for the Dolphins and carried a long tail with a crucial 77-run contribution to ensure that the home side finished on 243.

Smit remained unbeaten, on 77 after facing 152 deliveries, but he ran out of partners late in the final session.

Harris, who took his 21st five-wicket haul, was well supported by speedster Morne Morkel who returned three for 56.

Jacques Rudolph and Tumelo Bodibe safely negotiated the last six overs and the Titans reached 20 without loss in their first innings before stumps were drawn. – Sapa
