Johannesburg - The weather played havoc on the opening day of this week's SuperSport Series matches, preventing any of the teams from gaining significant momentum on Tuesday.

Warriors captain Colin Ingram nonetheless produced an impressive display in Paarl as he anchored a late recovery for his struggling team against the Cape Cobras.

The seam pairing of Rory Kleinveldt and 21-year-old Beuran Hendricks put the visitors on the back foot early on, after they won the toss and opted to bat.

The start to the encounter was delayed, but after play began, the Warriors were soon reduced to 51 for three.

Ingram, however, stood firm in a 95-run stand for the fourth wicket with Arno Jacobs, who made a patient 28 from 104 balls to help steady the ship.

The skipper went on to make his 12th first-class century with an unbeaten 119 from 239 deliveries, orchestrating the recovery effort as the Warriors, lying bottom in the competition, reached 239 for four at stumps.

Hendricks bowled with maturity for the Cobras, taking two for 48.

The Knights, table toppers heading into the second half of the competition, and the Dolphins, the only team without a win after five matches, were halted by rain in the afternoon session in Bloemfontein.

The match was delayed after 43.1 overs and the players were kept off the field till long after the scheduled tea break.

Dolphins seam bowler Mthokozisi Shezi ripped through the Knights’ top order, taking control early on with a disciplined performance.

The Knights’ opener Dean Elgar top-scored with 33, but the Dolphins’ attack, spearheaded by Shezi, reduced the hosts to 84 for four.

The Knights added another 14 runs without loss, with Ryan and Bailey on 19 and Morne van Wyk on 11, before the players were sent off in the second session.

While the teams returned to the field, only 14 more overs were bowled before stumps were called nearly 40 overs early, and while the Dolphins struck again when Bailey was removed by Robert Frylinck for 46, the home side managed to add 74 runs to the total.

Van Wyk was unbeaten on 54, with the Knights on 172 for five at the close of play.

Shezi returned three for 42 and Frylinck took two for 42 to share the spoils.

The derby clash between the Titans and the Highveld Lions was also delayed, first by bad light, and then rain, in the second session in Benoni.

Veteran captain Martin van Jaarsveld got the hosts off to a blistering start, after winning the toss and choosing to bat, with 80 runs from 83 balls.

Spin bowler Eddie Leie had the skipper caught in the second session with the Titans on 161 for four.

The home side added another 33 runs without loss, with Faf du Plessis on 23 not out and Henry Davids unbeaten on 23, when play was delayed midway through the day.

Returning in the evening session after an enforced break, 26 further overs were possible as Du Plessis and Davids set about building on the team's explosive start.

Du Plessis made 80 from 111 deliveries before Leie had him caught behind, and Davids was on 46 not out as he guided the home side to 273 for five.

Leie took three for 76, removing scalps at crucial times, to lead the Lions’ attack. - Sapa
