Justin Kemp saved his best for last when he hit a six and a four off the last two balls of the Cobras' innings to clinch a five wicket victory over the Titans in their Standard Bank Pro20 match at Newlands on Friday night.

A superb partnership of 65 between Richard Levi and Owais Shah set the groundwork for the Cobras as they chased a target of 176.

Master Blaster batsman Levi scored 68 off 45 but, once he was gone, the run-rate increased for the Cobras and they looked in danger of losing the game towards the end.

Needing 14 to win off the last over and nine off the last two balls, Kemp led his team to victory and was also awarded the Master Blaster bowler award after he had helped stem the flow of runs when the Titans were in full swing.

Having won the toss, the Titans suffered an early setback losing a wicket off the first ball. Opening batsman Blake Snijman was trapped lbw as Charl Langeveldt got the ball to swing upfront.

Jacques Rudolph (45) and Roelof van der Merwe (65) went about repairing the damage and shared a century stand off 65 balls. Van der Merwe dominated the partnership, scoring his 50 off 27 balls.

Not to be outdone, Albie Morkel scored his half-century off 25 balls at the end of the innings, taking the Titans to 175/4 - a challenging target for the Cobras under floodlights.

Morkel, left out of the recently announced World Cup squad, suffered what appeared to be a groin injury in the 19th over and, after receiving on-field treatment, he needed a runner to complete the innings. It did not stop him scoring a four and two sixes off the last over to bring up his 50.

Cobras' captain Kemp brought himself on to bowl and made the breakthrough when he had Van der Merwe stumped by wicketkeeper Dane Vilas.

He ended with one wicket for 15 runs and was by far the most economical bowler of the evening. - Sapa
