Cape Cobras cricket star Rory Kleinveldt has apologised for smoking cannabis.

The Cobras and South African national team cricketer’s career could go up in smoke after he tested positive for a banned substance last week.

Kleinveldt has been provisionally suspended from the game until the end of the enquiry and will miss the rest of the Cobras’ T20 Challenge campaign.

The 29-year-old swing bowler said in a statement: “I need to admit to having acted irresponsibly.

“I have made a big mistake at a time when I should have known that what I was doing was wrong.

“As a person and a professional cricketer, I need to take responsibility for this and deal with the consequences of my actions.”

He is not, however, the only player in the current Cape side that has been busted for taking a puff.

Bad Boy Herschelle Gibbs was fined R10 000 back in 2001 for the same offence when he was on tour with South Africa in the West Indies.

Kleinveldt, however, will be lucky to get the same lenient punishment. – Daily Voice
