Johannesburg - The Knights coasted to an eight wicket victory over the Lions in their One-Day Cup match at the Wanderers on Friday.
Set a less than intimidating 142 for victory, the Knights were always in control in their run chase and reached the total in 36
overs.
Openers Lefa Mosena (34) and Reeza Hendricks (55*) put on a stand of 71 before the Lions made the breakthrough.
Jean Symes trapped Mosena lbw in the 24th over, but the wicket ultimately meant little.
Hendricks was joined at the crease with Rilee Rossouw, and together the pair put on 48 to get the Knights to the cusp of victory before the partnership was broken.
Rossouw was dismissed by Eddie Leie in the 31st over with the visitors requiring a further 23 for the win.
The loss meant the Lions finish bottom of the log - with one win in 10 games - in a campaign they would like to forget.
Earlier, Quinton Friend produced a fiery display of fast bowling to return figures of 4 for 30 in seven overs as the Lions were bowled out for a modest 141 in 37 overs.
Opener Stephen Cook was Friend's first victim as he edged the bowler to first slip as the Lions fell to 37 for 2 in the 10th over.
In came Lions captain Alviro Petersen, but he returned after a rather brief stay in the middle which lasted three deliveries. Friend had the Proteas player trapped lbw for a duck as the Lions lost their third.
A fourth wicket partnership of 52 between Temba Bavuma (45) and Rassie van der Dussen (25) restored the faint hopes of the Lions.
But, with the fall of Van der Dussen caught at gully off the bowling of Nicky Boje, wickets continued to tumble at regular intervals as the Lions could only muster 141. - Sapa
