Johannesburg – Mandla Mashimbyi has been appointed assistant coach of the Titans, the franchise announced on Friday.
Mashimbyi, a former player, retired in 2010 and began a new coaching role at Limpopo Impala Cricket, where he assumed head coaching responsibilities for the senior and under 19 teams. In the same year Mashimbyi obtained his level three coaching qualification.
“It is important for us to appoint coaches that the fans can identify with,” said Jacques Faul, chief executive officer of the Titans.
Mandla's appointment will go a long way in growing the interest of the game in previously untapped communities.”
Titans head coach Rob Walter said he would welcome the appointment of Mashimbyi.
“Personally I am very excited to have Mandla join The Unlimited Titans family,” said Walter.
“These are new and exciting times for the franchise and to have another home grown face on the management staff who understands the set-up and culture can only add value. We look forward to his energy and enthusiasm in our environment and I have no doubt that this opportunity will do wonders for his growth as a coach.”
Mashimbyi said he relished the challenge of working with the Titans.
“This has been a dream since I retired from playing and I am excited about the opportunity to add value and contribute to the continued growth and success of the team,” said Mashimbyi.
