Former Proteas head coach Corrie van Zyl has been appointed as Cricket SA's new general manager of cricket.

“Corrie has a distinguished record as player, coach and administrator and he will do an excellent job in taking the game forward,” CSA CEO Gerald Majola said in a statement on Tuesday.

Majola said Vincent Barnes would take charge as head coach of the High Performance Centre, and the youth cricket manager, Niels Momberg, senior cricket manager, Max Jordaan, and coaching education manager, Anton Ferreira, would report directly to Van Zyl.

Van Zyl said he was delighted to take up his new post.

“When I decided to stand down as national cricket coach I felt I could still make a contribution to the well-being of South African cricket over a period of time and I am very excited about this new challenge,” Van Zyl said. – Sapa
