The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) will not be investigating Cricket SA (CSA) chief executive Gerald Majola, its spokesman Mthunzi Mhaga said on Friday.
“With regard to the CSA matter, our stance still stands that we don't have the mandate or capacity to investigate criminal cases, as that is the responsibility of SAPS 1/8SA Police Service 3/8,” Mhaga said.
He was reacting to media enquiries following the release of the findings of a ministerial committee headed by retired judge Chris Nicholson, which investigated the affairs of CSA.
In the report Nicholson said Majola's non-disclosure of bonuses paid to him and other CSA staff members should be referred to the NPA.
Nicholson said the committee believed there was a prima facie case against Majola.
An external audit in 2011 found that Majola had contravened sections 234, 235, and 236 of the Companies Act.
The ministerial committee concluded the CSA board was complicit in a cover-up to protect Majola. – Sapa
