Cricket SA (CSA) president Mtutuzeli Nyoka was successful in his second attempt to view a document containing the legal opinion of advocate Azhar Bham on Thursday.
Bham's opinion was sought by the CSA board after a forensic audit found CSA's chief executive Gerald Majola may have breached the Companies Act when he negotiated R4.7 million in bonuses for 40 CSA members of staff two years earlier.
The bonuses were paid after the successful hosting of the 2009
Indian Premier League and ICC Champions Trophy, but had not been cleared by CSA's remunerations committee, which then paid extraordinary bonuses to the same staff for the same work.
Majola was cleared by an internal investigation, but Nyoka refused to bury the matter and continued to push for an external audit, which was conducted by KPMG in June.
CSA confirmed in a statement that Nyoka was at its offices in Johannesburg for two hours on Thursday afternoon and made notes while reading the document.
Nyoka had attempted to view the Bham document last week, but it could not be found. The CSA cited an “administrative oversight” for this.
While at the federation's offices, Nyoka received notice of the special meeting of the board of directors from Ajay Sooklal, chairman of CSA's legal and governance committee.
