Openers Divan van Wyk and Imraan Khan got the Dolphins off to a cracking first-innings start on the second day of their SuperSport Series match against the Highveld Lions in Durban on Friday.

The pair shared 161 runs for the first wicket as the hosts reached 198/3 at stumps, trailing the visitors by 220 runs.

In an interesting move from the Lions, veteran all-rounder Zander de Bruyn opened the bowling, but he went wicketless in his seven overs.

Khan was first out for 62 off the bowling of Morris, who had him caught behind by Dominic Hendricks shortly before the close, and he was soon followed by Van Wyk who made 86.

Proteas batsman Hashim Amla was on 12 not out at the close of play, with David Miller unbeaten on 6.

Earlier, Hendricks and Chris Morris had lifted the Lions to a first innings total of 418.

The visitors resumed at 303/6 overnight, but Cliffie Deacon soon departed after he was trapped leg-before by spinner Imran Tahir for 10.

The wicket brought together Hendricks and Morris as they compiled a 53-run partnership for the eighth wicket.

Hendricks, who contributed 32, was caught behind by Daryn Smit off the bowling of Kyle Abbott midway through the morning session.

Morris was not finished, though, as he kept the tail wagging. He was eventually the last man out for a brisk 62 off 67 balls.

In East London, heavy rain and a wet outfield made play impossible for the second straight day in the match between the Warriors and the Titans.

The toss was delayed to Saturday. – Sapa
