Jon-Jon Smuts struck a century on day three of his side's SuperSport Series match, to put the Warriors in command against the Dolphins in Port Elizabeth.
The home captain made 107 off 166 deliveries and Arno Jacobs struck 51 out of a total of 369 for nine declared to set the visitors 441 for victory.
Divan van Wyk was then unbeaten on 62 which took the Dolphins to 121 for one by stumps, leaving 321 to get on the final day on Sunday.
Resuming on 142/2 at the start of the day, just two wickets fell in the morning session with Jacobs and Smuts putting on 110 for the third wicket.
They fell either side of lunch to Robbie Frylinck (three for 114) and Kyle Abbott (three for 64) respectively, before useful lower order contributions from Wayne Parnell (43) and Athenkosi Dyili (37), who shared a 65 run partnership, as well as Andrew Birch (29 not out) extended the lead.
In reply, Khayelihle Zondo (39) and Van Wyk put on 80 for the first wicket, before Simon Harmer struck.
Devon Conway (15) provided good support to ensure there was no further damage done.
Elsewhere, Boeta Dippenaar and Quinton Friend starred for the Knights as they stormed back to end the day on top against the Titans, although a draw seemed the most likely result in Bloemfontein.
Friend claimed four of the five Titans wickets to fall – the visitors slipping from their overnight position of 416/5 to 461 all out.
In reply, Dippenaar hit an unbeaten 109, his 34th career hundred, and took his side to the close 270/5, with Obus Pienaar making 83.
The veteran batsman continued to prosper alongside Pienaar, the two sharing a 138-run partnership, before the latter was out shortly before the close and the overall lead stretched 247.
In Cape Town, seamer Rory Kleinveldt ended with five wickets as the Cape Cobras claimed the final three Lions wickets early in the morning session to seal an innings and 83 run victory.
The visitors, who were rolled over for a poor 86 in their first innings, resumed the day on 146/7 in reply to the home side's 341, with Cliffe Deacon and Dale Deeb together in an unbroken 52-run stand.
The two bowlers came together with their team struggling on 94/7, adding 16 runs to their overnight tally, before Kleinveldt drew an edge from Deeb to wicketkeeper Dane Vilas for 36.
Kleinveldt then bowled Craig Alexander (nought) in the same over, which was the fifth of the day, before Pumelela Matshikwe (two) could do nothing but defend another good delivery straight to Vilas with the Lions all out for 172.
Deacon ended unbeaten on 35 from 81 deliveries as his side slumped to a second loss of the season.
Kleinveldt ended with five for 42 with the Cobras leapfrogging the Knights and the Titans to top the competition standings. – Sapa
