Centurion - The Titans earned the bonus point they needed after beating the Warriors by eight wickets in the last of their T20 Challenge pool matches in Centurion on Wednesday.

In a rain-affected match, the Titans were chasing 60 runs from 11 overs but needed to get there in 8.4 overs to earn a bonus point and climb to second position on the log.

Already assured a semifinal berth heading in to the game, their second-place finish secured them home-ground advantage for the one-off semifinal.

After a delay of almost two hours, the Titans had nothing to lose and went about their task with abandon.

Rusty Theron bowled a superb over first up for the Warriors, trapping Henry Davids leg-before for one run.

Undeterred, Martin van Jaarsveld and Faf du Plessis added 31 runs off 25 balls.

When Van Jaarsveld was out, bowled by spinner Johan Botha, Du Plessis and Farhaan Behardien rose to the challenge and won the match in 7.5 overs.

The Warriors had won the toss and, rather surprisingly, selected to bat first.

The visitors played into the hands of the hosts as the Warriors’ wickets tumbled.

Wayne Parnell, who top-scored with a meagre 23, was the first batsman back in the changeroom after his top edge, off Ethy Mbhalati, was well-taken by Alfonso Thomas.

Two balls later, Ashwell Prince joined him when Thomas had him caught by Albie Morkel at mid-on.

Thomas picked up another scalp three balls later, when Warriors captain Davy Jacobs edged to Martin van Jaarsveld at first slip, for a duck.

Morkel then weighed in with two important wickets - those of Proteas players Colin Ingram and Botha - both in the ninth over.

After Craig Thyssen was caught behind off spinner Roelof van der Merwe, the home team had the Warriors struggling at 64/6 when the rain ended their innings early.

The Titans will play the Knights in Centurion on Sunday to decide which team will meet the Highveld Lions in the competition final on April 1. - Sapa
