The Titans set a new record, conceding 54 extras against the Highveld Lions in the One-day Cup fixture at the Wanderers on Sunday.

It was the highest number of extras conceded in limited overs cricket in South Africa.

The previous record of 53 was set by North West against Free State in the 2007/08 season.

The Lions made 338 runs, for the loss of five wickets, with Neil McKenzie unbeaten on 108.

Extras was the second highest scorer, and constituted two byes, 11 leg-byes and 41 wides.

The main culprits were Hardus Viljoen, who bowled 17 wides (nine wides and eight wide-extras) and Marchant de Lange, who took 3-73 but conceded 10 wides (six wides and four wide-extras).

The Titans used eight bowlers in an unsuccessful effort to stem the run flow. – Sapa
