Johannesburg – The most notable name in the Highveld Lions' list of contracted players for 2013/14, announced by the franchise on Friday, is that of Lonwabo Tsotsobe.

After just one season with the Dolphins, Tsotsobe opted to ply his trade in Johannesburg, although he would only be available for the domestic franchise when not on international duty with the Proteas.

A year ago, the 29-year-old made a sudden departure from the Warriors, where he had spent most of his career, leaving behind an unhappy administration in his native city of Port Elizabeth, to join the Natal-based outfit.

In 2011, he was released from his contract after only five weeks with English county side Essex, in a much-publicised incident when he posted a comment on Twitter describing his time there as "the worst two months of my life".

Lions head coach Geoffrey Toyana said he was not unduly worried about the left-arm seamer's inability to settle in a new environment.

"Lopsy has a tremendous amount of ability and I believe he will bring experience and guidance to some of the younger players in our squad," Lions coach Geoffrey Toyana said.

"There is a lot of hard work ahead of us and we will have to put in the work if we want to impress on both the international and domestic stage.

"We have the players to achieve this, the ball is now in our court."

The side would reconvene at the end of May to start their off-season programme.

CSA contracted players in the Lions squad: Alviro Petersen, Aaron Phangiso, Thami Tsolekile, Imran Tahir, Lonwabo Tsotsobe.

Lions contracted players: Temba Bavuma, Gulam Bodi, Stephen Cook, Quinton de Kock, Cliffe Deacon, Dominic Hendricks, Eddie Leie, Pumelela Matshikwe, Neil McKenzie, Grant Mokoena, Christopher Morris, Ethan O'Reilly, Brett Pelser, Shaylen Pillay, Dwaine Pretorius, Jean Symes, Rassie van der Dussen, Hardus Viljoen. – Sapa
