Johannesburg – An opening partnership of 201 from Michael Price and Davy Jacobs put the Warriors on a firm footing in their Sunfoil series match at St George's Park on Saturday.
The home side started the third-day on 105 without loss, for an overall lead of 165.
At the start of play, openers Price and Jacobs were on 53 and 44 respectively, and at the luncheon interval the pair had increased the lead to 260.
In the 64th over Price, who had been at the wicket for 271minutes, suffered a slight aberration, flicked and missed a CJ de Villiers delivery, which continued onto the pads, with the umpire confirming the appeal.
Price's 186-ball 105, included only eight boundaries.
As is often the case in lengthy partnerships Jacobs followed soon after, gloving a De Villiers snorter into the hands of the keeper Heino Kuhn, for 103, which contained only three fours off 240-balls.
Jon-Jon Smuts added 21 before chipping a Roelof van der Merwe ball straight back to the bowler.
Ashwell Prince hung around for an hour contributing 24 runs.
With a healthy 413-run lead the Warriors declared.
At close of play the Titans were 40 for three with Peter Malan on seven and Henry Davids on eight.
While all this was happening, the Highveld Lions who were hosting the Dolphins at the Wanderers were busy losing wickets at an alarming rate.
The hosts started the day on 81 for one with Stephen Cook on 29 and Zander de Bruyn on 18.
But in the seventh over of the day De Bruyn misjudged a delivery from Dane Paterson and was caught in the crease and the umpire had no compunction in raising his finger.
Cook and Neil McKenzie knuckled down to resurrect the innings, putting on 65 for the third-wicket.
McKenzie, 41 off 55-ball with five fours and a six lofted over cow corner, was also rapped on the pads and given out.
McKenzie's dismissal signalled an implosion as Temba Bavuma, Gulam Bodi, Chris Morris, Thami Tsolekile, Hardus Viljoen and Imran Khan, followed him back to the hut - the Lions had lost seven wickets for a paltry 52 runs.
Cook was his normal obdurate self - 92 off 200-balls - and Pumi Matshikwe (4) put on 31 off 66-balls for the last wicket.
The Dolphins, chasing 241 to win, started off badly losing the wicket of Divan van Wyk five balls into the first over.
Imraan Khan and Jonathan Vandiar got the ball rolling with a 95-run stand for the second-wicket.
Two wickets in succession saw Vandiar and Vaughn van Jaarsveld back in the dressing room: Vandiar for 62 off 101 balls and Van Jaarsveld without scoring.
David Miller and Cody Chetty safely saw out the day on 28 and 11 respectively, with the Dolphins still needing 92 runs to win. – Sapa
