The Warriors dented the hopes of title holders the Cape Cobras in the race to the T20 Challenge playoffs, picking up a valuable bonus point with a 43-run win in Cape Town on Friday night.
Chasing 150 runs for victory, the Cobras were bowled out for 106 as the Warriors secured their fourth victory in 10 games, with seven balls to spare, climbing one place up the table to fifth.
The Warriors attack, spearheaded by Proteas spinner Johan Botha, combined well to leave the visitors struggling at 63/4 midway through their innings.
Justin Ontong put up a brief fight down the order, with 23 at a run a ball, but he holed out to Kelly Smuts at long on in the 18th over as their mild resistance crumbled.
Botha returned 2/9 from his four overs, and he was well backed by Wayne Parnell, Andrew Birch and Rusty Theron who bagged two scalps each.
Australian spin bowler Brad Hogg put up a lone fight in an effort to restrict the Warriors line-up, returning 4/33 as the visitors made 149/6 after they lost the toss and were sent in to bat.
Opener JJ Smuts, however, made 35 off 30 balls to get the Warriors off to a solid start, and Botha carried the middle order with an unbeaten 38 from 26.
Botha shared valuable cameo partnerships with Smuts, who made 19 runs, and Parnell, who hit 23 off 12 deliveries, including successive sixes off Hogg in the last over, as he guided the Warriors to 149/6. - Sapa
