Port Elizabeth - The Warriors continued their push for the one-day Cup playoffs when they outplayed the Titans in a rain-affected game at St George's on Sunday.

Three rain interruptions saw the Titans’ target of 238 re-adjusted to 223 off 42 overs.

The visitors could only manage 186 all out with a ball remaining, 36 runs short of what looked like an unlikely win for most of their innings.

The visitors struggled to come to terms with a disciplined home attack on a slow surface.

Captain Martin van Jaarsveld offered resistance with 31 and so did Roelof van der Merwe (36) and Marchant de Lange (27 not out) down the order, but for the rest of the Titans batsmen it was a disappointing day at the office.

Rusty Theron was at his accurate best claiming three for 31 in nine overs while Parnell and Ntini each took two.

The win saw the Warriors draw level with the Cobras at the top of the competition standings on 20 points. Both have three matches to play in round-robin stages. The side that finishes top of the standings will automatically qualify for the final, while second and third places will play-off in a semi-final.

The Titans remained on nine points and face an uphill battle to qualify for the semi-final in their remaining four games.

Earlier, a record fourth-wicket stand between man-of-the-match Justin Kreusch and Craig Thyssen helped see the homeside to a competitive 237 all out, although they will be concerned that they were dismissed with one over of their innings remaining.

The pair came together with the Warriors, who had lost the toss, hanging on a thread at 18 for three and combined well to score 157 runs in 202 balls.

That effort eclipsed the Warriors' previous best for the fourth wicket of 129 made by Colin Ingram and Kreusch against the Knights in Bloemfontein last season.

Kreusch was eventually sent on his way for 79, caught by Marchant de Lange on the extra cover boundary while trying to hit left-arm spinner Roelof van der Merwe inside out.

He struck nine fours in a 104-ball stay at the crease.

Thyssen matched Kreusch's score of 79 before he clipped Rowan Richards into the safe hands of Henry Davids at square-leg.

He hit five fours and a six en route to a career-best in this format of the game. His previous best was an unbeaten 63 made against the Knights earlier this season. - Sapa
