Spin bowler Michael Erlank secured his maiden five-wicket haul as the Knights put in a bid for victory on the third day of their SuperSport Series match against the Dolphins in Pietermaritzburg on Saturday.

The weather again interrupted play, as it had done on the first two days, but the Knights' bowling attack placed the visitors in control as they forced the Dolphins to follow on.

The Knights declared their first innings at 428/6 overnight and reduced the hosts to 239 all out in their first innings. Vaughn van Jaarsveld was the only batsman to put his hand up for the Dolphins with a 72-run contribution from 114 balls.

Erlank bowled 19.2 overs for his return of 5/107, and he was well backed by seamer Dillon du Preez who took 3/28.

The Dolphins reached 10 without loss in their second innings before stumps were drawn, with captain Imraan Khan unbeaten on four and Divan van Wyk on two.

The hosts trailed the Knights' first innings total by 179 runs with 10 wickets in hand heading into the final day. – Sapa
