Johannesburg – The weather was the star performer on day one of the first-class cricket series matches on Thursday.
The start of the Titans and Cape Cobras match was delayed by more than two hours, with a wet outfield from overnight rains in Benoni.
The weather cleared enough for the sides to manage close to an entire session before the elements had the final say, and bad light brought a premature end to play.
The Titans had reached 84 for no wicket after 23 overs when the umpires called the players off.
They suffered a blow, with Heino Kuhn forced to retire hurt for 25 after being struck on the hand by a Rory Kleinveldt delivery.
Francois le Clus (25) and Cobus Pienaar (30) were both unbeaten at stumps.
Beuren Hendricks (0 for 33 in seven overs) produced good swing with the cloudy overhead conditions, but the Titans batsmen still managed to score at more than four runs an over off the opening bowler.
In Potchefstroom, the Lions and Warriors started their match without any delays, and in-form Stephen Cook notched up an unbeaten 78 to steer the hosts to 149 for two after 42.4 overs.
Together with Neil McKenzie, the pair put on a 94 run third wicket stand before play was called for the day.
Rusty Theron was the pick of the bowlers for the Warriors, returning figures of one for 42 in 14.4 overs in a miserly spell of bowling in the opening day's play.
