A GoFundMe page has been set up to help former Springboks centre Andre Snyman battle a debilitating tumour.

The 50-year-old Snyman, who was one of the fastest rugby players to ever play for the Boks, was diagnosed with a tumour that affects his brain in October. It's called a vestibular schwannoma - or acoustic neuroma - which is a tumour that grows in the ear canal.

According to the GoFundMe page, Snyman can no longer drive a motor vehicle or move without concern due to his balance being impacted by the tumour. He is set to undergo surgery in January to remove the tumour.

Snyman currently lives in the United States, where he coaches the Valor Christian High School Rugby Club girls team.

"While the recovery time is expected to be three months post-surgery, there are immediate challenges that Andre and his family are navigating - both medical and non-medical.

"To help alleviate the added pressure of this unexpected health crisis that Andre finds himself in, I have created this GoFundMe so that friends, members of the rugby community, colleagues, and those who feel so inclined are able to aid in his immediate time of need and post-surgery recovery," the post on the GoFundMe page read.

Snyman played 38 Tests for the Springboks between 1996 and 2006, known as a centre and wing with a lovely swerve and speed, which helped him take the outside gap with ease.

Locally, Snyman also had stints with the Bulls between 1995 and 1999 and Sharks from 2000 to 2003. Snyman also had played in England and France.
