There’s a new winemaker in town and she’s not afraid to take risks. Clico Boutique Hotel, in Rosebank, is presenting an exclusive collaboration between chef extraordinaire, Dario de Angeli and one of South Africa’s most renowned winemakers, Catherine Marshall.

Guests will be treated to a meticulously crafted six-course dinner, with each course thoughtfully paired with one of Marshall’s exceptional wines. This culinary journey will highlight the unique flavours and textures of South African cuisine on a menu curated by Executive Chef, Dario de Angeli, while Marshall shares personal insights and stories from her illustrious career in winemaking.

The evening’s menu, curated by the culinary team at Sec,under the expert guidance of de Angeli, features six courses showcasing local ingredients and vibrant flavours, including a delectable honeydew melon and smoked pork guanciale starter paired with Catherine Marshall Sauvignon Blanc, and a Springbok loin dish complemented by her signature Pinot Noir on Clay Soils. Vegetarian alternatives will be available upon request, ensuring that all guests can fully enjoy the curated wine pairings.

Graduating from Elsenburg in 1991, Marshall has honed her winemaking expertise through apprenticeships in France, the USA, and Australia. As a cellar master at several prestigious wineries in Stellenbosch, Paarl, and Elgin, she garnered numerous awards, including 5-star Platter Wine Guide accolades and Tim Atkin 95+ ratings. Her pioneering work in Pinot Noir production and her role in the Garagiste Movement have made her a respected figure in the South African wine industry.

With a focus on authentic ingredients and unparalleled hospitality, Sec is poised to redefine the culinary landscape in South Africa.

Marshall, the first female winemaker in South Africa to launch her own eponymous wine label, brings decades of experience and passion to the evening. Guests will explore a variety of her celebrated wines, including her award-winning Pinot Noir and Chenin Blanc, as well as a surprise dessert wine to complement the finale. In addition to her professional achievements, Marshall’s personal passions include mountain hiking, travel, and entertaining, traits that lend a dynamic edge to her approach to winemaking and storytelling.
