FlySafair has defended price increases after the grounding of British Airways (BA) and Kulula flights recently. Passengers who were stranded and had to find alternate airlines, had complained about FlySafair’s sudden price hike.
In an interview on 947 Anele and the Club, FlySafair Chief Marketing Officer, Kirby Gordon said the reason for the increase in prices was due to the high demand for flights and the grounding of the other air crafts.
“The first seats that we sell on a flight, in the beginning, are the ones that sell at the cheapest price. And then they become incrementally more expensive as the flight fills up, which is an indication of demand kind of increasing,” said Gordon
He added that with the fuel hikes airlines were also feeling the pinch and that this would have an impact on ticket prices.
“The fuel price has hit us as hard as its hit the motorists. Unfortunately we are all going to feel the fuel hike. It’s going to hit the price of food and 40% of ticket price depends on the price of fuel,” said Gordon.
He highlighted that they were glad to be back in the air since the start of Covid-19.
Anele and the Club co-host, Frankie Du Toit found a moment to squeeze in the question, 'How do we get our faces onto one of the planes?'
Gordon didn't hesitate and quickly replied, 'Ah. You just ask me!'.
Du Toit said; “I want it on the wing. You know where the end of the wing kind of curves up. Where they put FlySafair. Yes, I'd like my face there.”
Within less than 24 hours of the conversation with Gordon, Anele Mdoda, Frankie, Cindy Poluta and Thembekile Mrototo had their faces on the winglets of a FlySafair aeroplane.
