A Chatsworth grandfather was shot and his son was killed during a home invasion at their Silverglen home this morning.

Paramedics were called to the home at around 3.20am and found that the grandfather, 63, was shot in his abdomen and was still alive. His 18-year-old grandson sustained injuries to his head when he was hit with a gun, and his 41-year-old son was declared dead at the scene.

According to sources, two armed men gained entry into the home by breaking the padlock on the gate, and removing the glass from the aluminium door.

The suspects fled with a television and gold jewellery.

“The grandfather lost a lot of blood and was rushed to hospital. We also treated his wife and two grandchildren, aged five and seven, for shock,” said Claude Subramodey, the spokesperson for Amawele Emergency Services.

Detectives are still processing the crime scene.

This is a developing story.
