The poor state of Mobeni Heights Crematorium has caused significant inconvenience and distress to families.
Many have expressed frustration and anger over the lack of maintenance and upkeep. One has to do an inspection to see the disgraceful condition of the Mobeni Heights Crematorium. It is time for heads to roll. It will be an idea for the eThekwini Municipality management to visit the Clare Estate Crematorium and see the professionalism in its upkeep.
Thank you Visvin Reddy, MK Party Member of Parliament, for calling for urgent intervention of the Mobeni Heights Crematorium by writing to the Minister of Cooperative Governance. With the prolonged closure for a number of years, it is definitely outrageous and disappointing to see the municipality having no concern for its citizens.
Their apathy towards the community is a betrayal of the trust placed in them. This is a cruel burden to families that are grieving. Despite numerous promises and assurances, the council has failed its people to reopen the crematorium. The stony silence from councillors is also deafening. Where is their support?
It's time for them to step up and show their commitment to the community. The fate of the crematorium is a reflection of our community values, so let us rally together for the sake of the poor and marginalised. When councillors choose apathy over action and when they neglect their duties to serve the people, it is time to step down.
"The voice and heart of the community" is so true. To the municipality and councillors, I would like to leave you with a reminder – may the re-opening of the crematorium be a testament to our commitment to treating all the people with respect, compassion and dignity. Sadly this is lacking.
