Today marks the third year death anniversary of King Zwelithini Goodwill Ka-BhekuZulu and to honour his legacy, 50 busts of the late His Majesty will be erected throughout the country.
The initiative will be undertaken by Ishwar Ramlutchman Mabheka Zulu, the president of the Sivananda World Peace Foundation.
He said the late king, who left behind a "legacy of courage, wisdom, and devotion to his people" was an honorary patron of the foundation.
"The king was the longest serving Zulu monarch whose reign nearly lasted half a century. It was cut short on March 12, 2021," said Ramlutchman Mabheka Zulu.
"These busts will be a beacon of hope to all South Africans. They will be installed at educational and health facilities, museums and public open spaces. We will work with the provincial government to roll out these busts across South Africa," added Ramlutchman.
Ramlutchman Mabheka Zulu was the only Indian to be adopted as a son by the late King and the only Indian to be given Zulu royal orders. He also became part of the Zulu Royal Regiments under Ezinyosi Regiments bestowed by the late king.
"His Majesty will be remembered as a much-loved, visionary monarch, who made an important contribution to cultural identity, national unity and economic development in KwaZulu-Natal andthrough this, to the development of our country as a whole.
"Indeed, our king has been the most consistent voice and campaigner for peace and unity in South Africa and the world at large. Amidst sinister forces that sought to foment war and mayhem among the Zulu people, His Majesty always stood on the side of those who strived for peace, stability, and prosperity of his people."
He added: "Throughout his reign, King Zwelithini demonstrated remarkable leadership, guiding his people with wisdom, compassion, and strength. He was a champion of his people's rights, a defender of their culture, and a promoter of their welfare.
"His Majesty's contributions to the development of the Zulu Kingdom and the nation as a whole are immeasurable. He worked tirelessly to promote economic growth, social justice, and cultural preservation.
"As we feel the loss of such greatness and an extraordinary leader, we remember his unwavering commitment to his people and their well-being, his visionary leadership and wisdom, and his passion for preserving cultural heritage and traditional values.
"We will also remember his dedication to promoting economic development and social justice and promoting social cohesion and togetherness of his people.
"May His Majesty's legacy continue to inspire us to work towards a brighter future for all. May his memory be a blessing to his family, the Zulu Kingdom, and our nation as a whole. Continue to rest in eternal peace. Bayede! Wena Wendlovu."
