Cape Town continues to shine on the global stage, earning the prestigious title of the Best Long-Haul City Break in the World for British travellers.

According to Cape Town Tourism, an impressive survey conducted by Which? engaged over 1500 members to rank their experiences in cities outside of Europe and, amidst a sea of destinations, Cape Town emerged victorious.

The tourism agency revealed that over 2 500 locations were evaluated across seven key criteria, including food and drink, accommodation, cultural and tourist attractions, shopping experiences, ease of navigation, crowd levels and value for money, solidifying the Mother City's unparalleled appeal.

In competition with major global cities such as Tokyo, Sydney, Dubai, and Los Angeles, Cape Town's exceptional blend of adventure, rich culture, and affordability has proven irresistible.

Rory Boland, editor of Which? Travel, stated: “Some cities are one-trick ponies, but the standout destinations in this year’s survey have it all – each offering unique cultural sights, top-class food and drink, and even sublime scenery.”

With its breathtaking landscapes and dynamic urban life, Cape Town showcased that it truly offers a complete package for visitors.

This accolade follows Cape Town's recent recognition as Time Out's Best City in the World, cementing its status as a top destination to visit in 2025.

What sets Cape Town apart from the competition?

For most travellers, the city's stunning natural beauty, top-tier food and wine scenes, alongside its remarkable affordability, are the key ingredients that lead to its success.

Whether sipping sundowners on Signal Hill, savouring the freshest fish and chips in Hout Bay, or diving into a vibrant nightlife, visitors can revel in world-class experiences without the exorbitant price tags characteristic of other premier global destinations.

One British traveller recently commented: “Cape Town is probably the world holiday destination where your pound will go furthest.”

A sentiment echoing through the hearts of many who have succumbed to the city’s charms.

According to Enver Duminy, CEO of Cape Town Tourism, the city is much more than a travel destination; it is a “living, breathing masterpiece of art, culture, and heritage.”

He explained: “Our art scene? It’s not just good; it’s world-class and we’ve got galleries and street art that’ll make your Instagram explode."

He urges the world to discover the captivating history of Cape Town, which goes far beyond any guidebook: “But hey, the only way to really get it is to come see for yourself. We’ve been keeping the secret long enough!”

Furthermore, James Vos, Mayoral Committee Member for Economic Growth, highlighted that Cape Town's recognition as a tourism leader doesn't only bolster its international profile but also serves as a crucial driver for economic and job growth.

“What makes Cape Town so special is that it’s not just a place to visit – it’s a place to experience,” Vos proclaimed.

“One minute, you’re hiking up Lion’s Head; the next, you’re sipping award-winning wine in Durbanville; and by evening, you’re enjoying fresh seafood with an ocean view.

“The best part? It contributes directly to our local economy, creating thousands of jobs and stimulating growth. You can do it all and still have room in your pocket for more!”
