Durban - Growing up in a not-so-developed township like Umlazi can limit you, and can also be discouraging because you do not get exposed to travelling and exploring the beauty of the world.
As for being underprivileged, it is impossible for you to even think of going to a place that is three to four hours away.
Fortunately for me, as a junior journalist, a person who did not have a fun and a joyful childhood, finally got a chance to see the Alpine Heath Resort which is based in the northern Drakensberg in KwaZulu-Natal.

This was an experience of a lifetime and I would really encourage everyone who has never been there to visit the Berg. They have something for everyone, from adults to children - their activities meet the needs for an exciting fun-filled time and their accommodation is luxurious.
I am so not a morning person, but the Berg taught me to be fast in whatever I did because of the early mornings which included taking a bath and preparing for breakfast at 7am.
The Drakensberg is well known for mountains, snow and animals, but to me it is actually a place where one can find peace and appreciate the beauty of nature.
The activities act as a reminder that you only live once. From hiking to quad biking, swinging trapeze and river rafting, both adrenaline junkies and those looking for tranquillity will find what they are looking for.
Extremely knowledgeable and highly experienced guides take you through the beautiful mountains.

The Berg is a home to many wonderful wildlife animals, a place where birds, rhinos, giraffe, zebras, horses are often spotted. One can view all of this from a car, boat or on foot.
