Air France-KLM has entered into a codeshare agreement with South African airline Airlink, broadening travel options for passengers across Southern Africa.

The partnership, effective from Tuesday, allows travellers using Air France and KLM flights to access 14 Airlink domestic destinations via Johannesburg and Cape Town.

This collaboration is set to expand further, with plans to include destinations in Angola, Botswana, Zimbabwe, and other African countries, pending regulatory approval.

The move aims to enhance connectivity and convenience for business and leisure travellers in the region.

“This codeshare agreement is a significant milestone for Air France-KLM in Southern Africa. It reflects our commitment to offering seamless travel experiences and expanding our reach to connect customers to key destinations in South Africa,” said Air France-KLM’s Southern Africa Country Manager, Wilson Tauro,

CEO and Managing Director of Airlink, Rodger Foster described the agreement as a strategic evolution of their long-standing interline partnership.

"It is a crucial relationship as both Air France and KLM provide extensive reach into many of Airlink’s key source markets in Europe and beyond. Importantly, they both operate direct services to Airlink’s Johannesburg and Cape Town hubs,” he noted.

Air France and KLM currently operate up to 28 weekly flights to South Africa, with services from Paris-Charles de Gaulle and Amsterdam Schiphol.

Earlier this year, KLM announced plans to increase flight capacity to South Africa, adding two additional weekly flights to Cape Town starting December 17. These flights aim to accommodate rising demand during the busy holiday season, particularly for Cape Town, a popular destination for both leisure and business travellers.
