Cape Town has been ranked as the fourth-best destination in Africa in Tripadvisor’s 2025 Travellers’ Choice Best of the Best awards, an annual ranking that highlights the most sought-after travel locations based on reviews from millions of travellers.
Morocco’s Marrakech claimed the top spot, followed by Mauritius and Zanzibar Island, while Nairobi and Victoria Falls rounded out the top six. The rankings, celebrating Tripadvisor’s 25th anniversary, recognise destinations that consistently receive exceptional reviews.
Cape Town, often referred to as “The Mother City,” remains a favourite for its diverse offerings, from the scenic Table Mountain to historic sites like Robben Island. The city also boasts renowned wine regions, pristine beaches, and a thriving arts and culture scene.
Marrakech’s first-place ranking reaffirms its status as one of the most captivating travel destinations in Africa. Known as “The Red City”, Marrakech offers a mix of vibrant markets, palatial gardens, and architectural wonders. Tourists can explore its bustling Medina or find tranquility at Jardin Majorelle, the botanical garden once owned by fashion designer Yves Saint-Laurent.
Mauritius, in second place, was recognised for its luxury resorts, pristine beaches, and adventure activities such as deep-sea fishing and dolphin swimming.
Meanwhile, Zanzibar Island, ranked third, continues to attract visitors with its white sandy beaches, turquoise waters, and the cultural richness of Stone Town.
Nairobi, often dubbed the “safari capital of Africa” secured the fifth spot for its mix of urban energy and wildlife experiences, including the Giraffe Centre and Nairobi National Park.
Victoria Falls, ranking sixth, remains a major draw for nature lovers and thrill-seekers, particularly those interested in white-water rafting and the famous lunar rainbow, or “moonbow" seen during full moons.
The rankings reflect not only traveller interest but also the evolving tourism landscape across the continent.
