After the relentless demands of motherhood, some well-deserved rest can work wonders - a sentiment strongly echoed by South African celebrity chef, Siba Mtongana.

The renowned restaurateur and entrepreneur has decided to take a break from her busy life, enjoying what she affectionately calls a "momcation" on the stunning island of Mauritius.

In a lively video shared with her followers on Instagram, Mtongana revealed her current location: the luxurious Club Med Exclusive Collection La Plantation d'Albion.

The chef cheerfully joked, “Did you guys hear that? Did you hear it? Did you hear that? You heard nothing because nobody called for 'mummy'. Nobody called for 'babe'. Nobody called for 'mama'. Um, that was the sound of my own thoughts. It sounds incredible.

"I never thought I would enjoy my own company, but I am. I’m enjoying it. I’m having fun!”

Emphasising the importance of such breaks, she explained her delight in finding a connection with fellow South Africans also vacationing at the resort.

“I met some South African friends with whom I’m happy to be spending my dinners,” she shared, capturing the essence of camaraderie during her much-needed getaway.

This isn't Mtongana's first rendezvous to the idyllic island.

She reminisced fondly about previous visits, revealing, “So glad to be back here… I’ve been here a few times … with MHB @brianmtongana for our babymoon, was here again for our full family holiday, and now for the first time coming alone for a Momcation at this beautiful resort…

"Oh! How peaceful and quiet! All mums need this!”

Her excitement paints a vivid picture of a mother reclaiming her time and peace.

A "momcation" is growing in popularity - a term that encapsulates the concept of mothers taking time off, either solo or with friends, to destress and indulge in self-care.

From short weekend getaways to extended trips, the purpose remains the same: prioritising personal well-being away from the demands of family life.

These retreats offer myriad benefits: reduced stress, improved mental health, and a chance to rejuvenate before jumping back into the whirlwind of quotidian responsibilities.

Mtongana’s refreshing approach to motherhood serves as an inspiration.

Her celebration of self-care reminds us all that taking time for ourselves not only nurtures our well-being but also lets us return to our families with renewed energy and love.

As Mtongana enjoys her tranquil escape surrounded by the beauty of Mauritius, it’s clear that all mothers deserve a moment to breathe, relax, and simply be.
