THE EFF plans to march on Wednesday to billionaire businessman Johann Rupert's house in Stellenbosch, Western Cape.

The march is set to start at 9am on the corner of Simmons Street and Koelenhof Road.

''The EFF will engage in a direct confrontation with Johann Rupert in order to register our disdain of the arrival of white settlers in South Africa in 1652, which is the day when the problems of Africans began,'' the party said.

The Stellenbosch Municipality told Weekend Argus that it was aware of the ''gathering''.

''The municipality had to evaluate and approve the application because it takes place in our area, although the event has nothing to do with the municipality.

''The group may not be more than 1500 people and must meet peacefully," spokesperson for the municipality Stuart Grobbelaar said.

The application was also approved by the SAPS, according to Grobbelaar.

“The committee that approves the events goes through all requests thoroughly and it is also approved by SAPS who sits on the committee.”

The EFF's Melikhaya Xego said it received the authorisation on Friday.

Rupert told Weekend Argus that he could not comment on ''other people's actions''.

Rupert owns the L’Ormarins wine estate in Franschhoek as well as the Rupert Museum in Stellentia Road.
